Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and a very Happy New Year! Can you believe 2012 is here already? Did anyone set resolutions? I didn't and usually don't. I have a yearly agenda of things to get done. As I accomplish the tasks on my agenda, I check them off and go on to the next one. I do this because statistically "resolutions" get broken within a month. While an agenda implies something that will be done! A few of this year's agenda items include: winning USATF indoor championships, breaking the world/American weight throw record, and winning the Visa series. (i'll talk about outdoor in a later post)

I'm not sure which indoor meets I'll do this year because none of the Visa meets except for USA's have the weight throw. Even the US Open that used to be the Milrose Games isn't having it. I'll miss competing at The Armory and then heading to Madison Square Garden that night to watch the rest of the meet. As the saying goes, "all good things come to an end." Which ever ones I end up going to, I'll be excited because my implements are flying really good right now! I'm hitting practice bests every week with at least one thing so things are right on track! We compete on Friday the 25th of February for the indoor championship, and its going to be so much fun! I look forward to a great 2012, London here we come!
Looking To London,
Amber

Throwing formats
In Olympic throwing events -- men's and women's shot put, discus, hammer and javelin -- the competition begins with a qualifying round in which the entire field is divided into two or more groups. In this round, competitors take turns attempting to reach a pre-set distance that automatically advances them to the final. If fewer than 12 athletes meet the distance required from direct qualification, the 12 competitors with the best throws, plus any athletes tying for 12th, advance to the final. In the final round, competitors take turns until each has attempted three throws. At this point, the top eight-ranked competitors (plus ties) receive three more throws. The best throw of the six is counted and the athlete with the longest throw is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the second-best throw is consulted.
