Springing Into Action

Hey Everybody!
Spring is officially here and it feels great! The weather's changing, flowers are blooming, and hammers are flying! I had my season opener this past Friday and was pleased with my results. My winning throw came in the second round with a distance of 69.25m. It was so cool, to have my co-workers and some of my friends from Sports Doctors come and watch me compete for the first time.

I'm super excited for a new step in my career. I just found out that I was confirmed for two meets overseas. The first will be April 24 in Dakar, Senegal on the western coast of AFRICA!!!! I've always wanted to visit Africa and now someone is paying my way to go...how blessed am I?!! The second meet will be May 19 in Daegu, Korea the same place the 2011 World Championships will be held. So I get a preview of the venue before I compete there next year. Good stuff!! Until then I'll have a couple of meets stateside next Friday at Duke University, and then April 17 at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, CA. I love this time of year, LOL!

Peace and blessings,
Amber

Throws Information

Throwing formats
In Olympic throwing events -- men's and women's shot put, discus, hammer and javelin -- the competition begins with a qualifying round in which the entire field is divided into two or more groups. In this round, competitors take turns attempting to reach a pre-set distance that automatically advances them to the final. If fewer than 12 athletes meet the distance required from direct qualification, the 12 competitors with the best throws, plus any athletes tying for 12th, advance to the final. In the final round, competitors take turns until each has attempted three throws. At this point, the top eight-ranked competitors (plus ties) receive three more throws. The best throw of the six is counted and the athlete with the longest throw is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the second-best throw is consulted.
